Our Chapter...

Which was started with the assistance from the Hopewell Jaycees, was formed in March 1954. Allan Loper served as the first President. The chapter charter is hanging at the Colonial Heights Public Library. Our chapter has been extremely active in the community, and we are known as a group of hard working young people who really know how to get things done!

In 1984 the Supreme Court ruled the Jaycees must admit women. In April 1985 seven former Jaycettes joined the Jaycees, with three immediately being elected to offices. Today our membership includes men and women of various occupations and with a wide variety of interests.

The Colonial Heights Jaycees are part of a geographic area currently referred to as Region II of the Virginia Jaycees. The region reaches from Lunenburg to Fredericksburg. The Jaycees is a leadership training organization. The Jaycee concept is that the individual member develops leadership skills through participating in four types of projects:

  • Individual development
  • Community development
  • Management development
  • Membership development

Through participation in all areas of the chapter, a member can enhance leadership skills, have fun, meet new friends, and make a genuine contribution to the community.
